Gay
Lynn Saunders
Gay Lynn’s
parents were
rockhounds, so minerals, gemstones,
gold and silver were all part
of her childhood. As she was
growing up and working in
textiles and clothing as her
art form, she often incorporated
jeweled items into the piece.
Following a long period in
the healing arts as a holistic
chiropractor, Gay Lynn returned
to jewelry making, starting
with seed beading. She discovered
a cache of gemstones and rough-cut
rocks her parents had left
her, and, in deciding what
to do with them, discovered
wire-wrapping. Now she works
part-time at the healing arts
and part-time on the jewelry.
Gay Lynn uses only quality
materials in her work. The
wire is either sterling silver,
fine silver, or 14/20 gold-filled.
She looks for unusual and
quality gemstones. The beads
are natural colors versus
dyed, irradiated or heat-treated.
She uses silver, gold-filled,
gold-plate, silver plate,
and pewter beads. And her
glass beads are mostly handmade,
never dyed.
Some of her work is pictured
below.
