Mark always had an interest in the art of glass making and sought
out opportunities to learn beginning at San Francisco State University
where he learned the fundamental skills and scientific knowledge
of glass enabling him to go to the next level: expression or
art.
Next, Mark was recruited by the well-known Cohn & Stone
Galleries, then located in Emeryville. It was here that
he learned about color and form watching and assisting two masters
in their art.
Still exploring, Mark left Cohn & Stone to work in a different
glass medium, borosilicate. He took an apprenticeship with
the late John Byers, where he gained an understanding of the
complexities of glass and a new artistic perspective.
Today Mark continues to explore the world of art and glass assisting
Dave Hopman of Chaos Glassworks in Sutter Creek.
